I read the google links on benzo withdrawal and as a 37 year user of benzos been cutting down a bit and don't have any of the symtoms they mention. Me I'm more tired and want to be on the go at the same time stay up late and sleep late. Anyone else cut down? So far from 20mg of valium and .5 of xanax to 12.5 valium and .25 xanax. Sleeping in longer periods but bored. So what does it mean? Phillipa

Hi Phillipa - I had a terrible time withdrawing from Xanax three years ago. I'll never touch a benzo with a short half life again. I do use Klonopin as sparingly as possible because it tends to stay in the liver longer and has a much longer half life (who needs that hangover feeling later?). I would think you'd feel a bit anxious and sleep less as you taper down. This has me baffled.

You can read anything about benzodiazepine withdrawal on the net, I'm sure various patients have their own individual experience.
Like I said for your sleep hygiene it really doesn't make sense to burn the candles at both ends.
You can't be "on the go" and expect to get enough sleep at the same time as wanting to stay up late and sleep late.
Staying up late on babble (I'm not saying you are, its just an example) or whatever you like and sleeping late can create a sleep disorder complex which doesn't really help your anxiety.
The boredom sounds like a different disorder happening -- some form of depression, paradoxical to your withdrawal. But then again benzodiazepines themselves create paradoxical reactions in some people. I would say, I don't know, that the tiredness is actually an anxiety reaction in disguise. But its merely a theory.

Jay up late posting ebay. But sleep late. Seeing internist tomorrow as my back pain also getting worse and weight loss? I've been told over and over that I must leave the house daily or I'll be agoraphobic. Love Phillipa

Maybe then you will find it easier to lower your dose?

Well if your body clock works that way, I can't say otherwise, I mean some people work a swing shift that way, but isn't it nice to see more of the sun, which would perhaps lessen depression?
Seeing internist tomorrow as my back pain also getting worse and weight loss? There are natural processes of aging, not everything is within our control. The weight loss could be a variation in your Hashimoto's, but I'm not the doctor. Back pain... can't say, a hundred different reasons including arthritis or other things.
I've been told over and over that I must leave the house daily or I'll be agoraphobic. If you have agoraphobia, you'll know it. I don't know that it suddenly produces it, but constantly staying in the house and not being among people, and not interacting with them at least to some extent, can create timidity of going outside, yes.
Agoraphobia is a greater exaggeration of that with a panic component, to summarize. What's the the worst that can happen to go to some social function or even look into it? So you don't like it, or you don't go to it. But you've tried.
Anyhow maybe I'm looking at it from a bit of transference from my own experience of being too isolated.

Jay saw internist today and lost more weight lightest ever been in life. He was not willing to take over my thyroid as said it was all over the place. Ordered lots of labs to see why losing weight and lots of urinary tests which I must google to see what they are. I took an online test as an RN last on on Pubmed and passed they asked how much time studying didn't at all. Was very happy as got two CEU's and a certificate that was printed out. It was on fibromyalgia they asked study time and mine was none so I guess still know my stuff. Love Jan

Do you really want to upset yourself by knowing the intricate details? I don't know -- I know, I do the same thing, I guess so its sort of pot and kettle. At any rate good luck on the tests and what options you have from them.

Congrats -- that sounds like a worthwhile activity to prove to yourself.
But also get out a little -- I thought you used to bike, I mean I imagine you don't feel so well with all of this going on in your system, but maybe a little walk?
