Trileptal is helping with depression but seems to be inducing hypomania. The same thing happened to me with lamictal.
I believe that my doctor thinks that it will go away once I reach higher doses.
I just raised it to 1200 mgs today. I've taken it before, and I believe that I need at least 1500 for some stablization.
I see the doc on mon, and i know he'll want me to take an antipsychotic for the severe racing thoughts. But I don't tolerate them well, they make me weird (all of my thoughts become internal, and i can't focus on the external world around me).
Anyway, hope this goes away at 1200 or 1500.
Any other suggestions I appreciate it.
Regards,
Brian

Have you ever tried Depakote? It's good for depression and keeps mania at bay.
At 1500 mg of trileptal you don't feel manic? So then I guess the obvious thing to do is to increase the dosage.
Any med can induce mania just as any med can induce depression. Lamictal made me much more depressed. Lithium as well.
I hope you get to the dosage that you need to feel better.

Yes, and after my hypomania on the trileptal, it induces depression about 6 hours after my dose. Perhaps that's when I should take my next dose.
Last time I was on trileptal, it induced depression, but I wasn't on an antidepressant.
I see my doc for the first time in months on monday. I'm thinking about going into his office med free and start from scratch.
The only thing I'll have to deal with is racing thoughts until then, which I'm already getting anyway.

Brian

Trileptal actually increased cycling for me.
i don't seem to agree with mood stabilizers very well.
