Abilify - Weight gain?

Have you experienced weight gain with Abilify?

At what dosages?

I gained a lot of weight over the past few years. I blamed it on Nardil and nortriptyline. Now that I've stopped the Nardil, I would have expected that it would be easier for me to lose weight through dieting. It has not been. I have managed my weight with nortriptyline in the past. Maybe it's the Abilify that is acting as a culprit along with the nortriptyline.

Any thoughts?

Scott I have thought seriously when did you stop nardil weren't you a lifer? How did you manage that seriously does this mean that your're in real remission. Scott I'm serious as that means there is hope for everyone me included. As came here when you tried cymbalta rest is history. Thought abilify was weight neutral? I would say either the nortriptyline at 150 mg or abilify could be causing the weight gain. Your dose or the nortrip is high and is certainly a likely suspect. Abilify does some dopamine blocking which also makes it suspect.

I would have my testosterone, igf-1 (to measure hgh) and thyroid tested. Don't just look for normal but values in the upper half of normal. I believe that many of the weight gain issues with meds has to do with hormone disruption.Now parnate should help with weight issues. Perhaps you could lower the abilify or nortriptyline. But I would bet your hormones have been whacked a bit.

saw this post so nortripyline is probably the culprit.

I have been on abilify for 4 yrs and have not put on any weight. i take 20 mgs a day along with zoloft 100mgs a day.

Hi Scott,

My skinny son gained a TON of wieght when on Abilify. Sorry I don't remember dose, but pretty sure higher than yours. I took him off and replaced it with Seroquel. He's lost most of the wieght. I know someone else who is currently on Abilify, again, probably larger dose than you, he gained I think 50lbs the first couple months on and I believe is now dangerously overweight. This is what I hear from his Mom.

So in response to your post, I believe Abilify could definately be the culprit.
