I've been on Abilify at 10mg and now 20mg for many months. I've not been tempted to gamble, but that may not mean anything. I just know I'm a bad gambler, so I get manic in other ways.

Interesting question . . . pramipexole, a dopamine agonist, is known to cause compulsive gambling. What does of Abilify caused this?

I started abilify about a year ago 15mg. shortly thereafter, I began to gamble heavily. It ruined me financially. I don't know why I started but I couldn't stop. I'm not looking for an excuse, but I didn't ever do it to that extreme in my entire life. My doc says no but I'm not convinced. Any input would be appreciated. I'm taking abilify for low dopamine levels and depression. At least that's what my doc tells me.

As azlea said, d2 agonist have been reported to cause this. Teh partial d2 agonist of aripirazole would theoretically be able to cause the same thing - it acts as a DA agonist at low doses, for those with low DA levels. Is your doctor aware of DA agonists and gambling? sris can reduce gambling; a low dose of one might be good addition and help with depression, although not helpful for whatever you mean by 'low dopamine' problems. Bupropion might be a better option too, it has preliminary evidence that it helps reduce gmabling addiction, as opposed to increasing risk.

I haven't developed a gambling compulsion but I did get obsessed with fixing my electronic gate and other wild drives to do things. Do you take your Abilify morning or night?
