Hi Jeroen,
Seroquel has a bad reputation for this problem... I'll guess you'll return to normal once the Seroquel is out of your system.
Could also be the Abilify is affecting you (for me it didn't, but then I'm female).
Best wishes,

> im trying to get a prescription for Seroquel XRAs I have noted before -- I thought you went onto XR actually, there really is no difference between the steady state plasma level of Seroquel even if it has a half life of 6 hours, and Seroquel XR.
It is a patent extension and hasn't been largely used in the psychiatric community. I mean I've been curious about replacement of it for my Seroquel but I think the results would be the same. Who knows? I don't think it would be covered or it would be very expensive.
As for the sexual problems, some atypicals raise what is known as prolactin levels that affect sexual motivation. I'm not completely sure that only Seroquel does this -- Risperdal I think does it more, but I forget.
But I think the depression that accompanies your schizophrenic spectrum disorder can also equally be a cause of lack of sexual desire just as it is in affective (depression, anxiety) disorders.
Sometimes a small amount of Wellbutrin can raise sexual desire, which I completely agree is something important when one is feeling down, the ability to please oneself is very important. It should be used cautiously though because it will raise dopamine levels, which is not something I think that would be very good for your condition.
-- best wishes

I have not been in a relationship for 11 years. I have slept with one person; one night in all that time. For all this time I have been on Amisulpride. It has caused as one of the main side effects a severely affected sex drive & erection dysfunction. I have had extensive blood tests. A main side effect with this drug is greatly raised prolactin hormone levels. Mine are over 3 times higher than what they should be. This also puts me at a far greater increased risk of osteoporosis; through the decreased ability for bones & teeth to absorb calcium as a result of the raised prolactin levels.
Add to that other side effects of lethargy, exhaustion, apathy, excessive weight gain, slowness of movement, blunted emotions, & fuzzy thinking; as well as a host of other odd side effects - & I wonder if the pay off with these meds is worth it?
Given the label - who wants a fat schizophrenic man; approaching middle age, who has been out of work 11 years? It depresses me sometimes.

I can understand the depression -- I think, though and I do the same thing -- how am I going to find a very caring and understanding person to be my life partner when I'm overweight, mentally ill, and on an unwanted vacation from work.Or I could look at it that there will be a charming, understanding (yes gay partner) who I don't have to just label myself as mentally ill. I have intelligent qualities, there are definite self-esteem issues of course, but you go with what you have. Sometimes you would be surprised.
I'm not trying to simplify the challenge, but there are all types of people who do love each other.
-- best wishes
