The withdrawal board has lots of info on how to come off cymbatla. I switched over to Zoloft right away and didn't have any withdrawal symptoms. If you are going on another anti-depressant, that's the way I'd do it. Cymbalta was a pretty bad experience for me.
Can you put a call in to your pdoc..three weeks is a long time to wait when you are feeling as badly as you describe. I called mine and told him I wanted off it like yesterday..he called in a script for Zoloft and I switched the next day..

Three weeks is much too long in the shape you are in. Even 3 days would be too long. You gotta call the doctor's office and see what they can do.
You can reduce the dose. Here's how. Open up a capsule and dump the contents onto a plate. The contents consist of enteric coated beads that allow them to pass through the stomach acid and be absorbed in the intestines. The capsule itself is not enteric coated. It's just a plain gel cap and is meaningless.
With the beads on a plate you can then divide them into whatever size pile you want. For example if you roughly divided it into four eyeball-equal piles, then you could do 3 of those piles to get about 24ish milligrams instead of 30mg. Split the beads in two equal piles and you could get 15mg doses. If you want to be as exact as possible, 10 beads is approximately 1mg.
Put the beads on applesauce, yogurt, pudding, anything soft, and swallow without chewing so as not to break the enteric coating on the beads.
I had a similar reaction as you. I switched straight across to zoloft and within 24 hours I was calmed right down. I'm not at all saying zoloft is the answer, just that switching to anything else is probably going to be a relief. In the meantime, you can make your own custom sized doses.
For emergency calming help, go to the health food store or Whole Foods Mkt and get a tincture of Passion Flower and/or Valerian. Either one can cut the edge, both together even better. Passionflower is usually for anxiety and nervousness, while valerian is usually for sleep, but both work similar to xanax or klonopin. I have used them in emergencies and I can tell you they do indeed have the power you need to cut the edge to tolerable or minimal.
Your doc might want to add a benzo such as xanax, lorazepam, or klonopin, or maybe an neuroleptic like seroquel or zyprexa, with the hopes of calming you down to give cymbalta more time to work and more time for the side effects to go away. No guarantee they would work, but those are common things. I just hate to see adding any more meds than needed. Better would be to reduce the dose and then slowly work it back up, or to switch straight across to something else. Just my opinion though.

Hi,Wow, sorry you're going through that. First just want to let you know what you're going through is pretty normal withdrawal for drugs like Cymbalta and Effexor. And second, I personally wouldn't wait 3 days in the condition you're in. Thats not fair to you, especially if there are things your Doc can do to ease the pain. If PDoc won't fit you in as an urgent appt., I'd contact GP for help. Put yourself on cancelation list for both and call everyday if you have to. But you have a right to feel better than that.
Good Luck!

Are you seeing a therapist? While i agree anyone who's tried more than a coupel of medications or who is having sever issues should see a psychiatrist, its easier and much more affordable to be able to see a therapist as well for longer, more thorough discussion of what you are going through, in part so you can be more prepared when you see the pdoc. As well as helping deal with issues, a therapist can diagnosis. A psychiatrist will do her own diagnosis, but it can help you you focus on the most likely problems, and seeing a therpist can help with that, as well helping with solving them.

Very true d/r and both is better. I guess the long drive eight hours total to mine is okay if factor in she does theraphy for over an hour with us as we travel so far. Would like another therapist here though as need to talk at least weekly. Last one here every three weeks and we didn't click. Love Phillipa

Don't write off the Cymbalta yet. They started me on 60mg and I was climbing the walls and had full blown panic attacks and akathisia. I titrated myself down SLOWLY. I open the capsules and count out granules and am comfortable at 3mg.
Don't do that unless you talk to your pdoc. But it was my former pdoc that insisted that Cymbalta can be started at higher doses even though I get horrible side effects from SSRIs, so....
It may be that Cymbalta is not for you, but the dose may be way to high for you. There are others on this board on small doses of Cymbalta.
Good luck.

So wait, I'm confused, she sees a psychiatrist and a therapist and she has to drive a long eight hours? is that for each or both?
Oh, wait, sorry Phillipa, thought you meant the poster. And you took Cymbalta? Wow, I'm starting to think I should come to you for medication advice, haha.
Love, Jade
