I've just been put on lamictal (been on it for almost 2 weeks) in addition to the 40 mgs. of Prozac and occasional ativan that I take. While the lamictal pulled me out of a manic phase, it seems to be making me sleepy, unmotivated and does nothing to abate my ongoing anxiety and discontent. I know my summer holds a lot of finetuning of my meds, but was wondering if these symptoms are usual with lamictal?

Lamictal is supposed to be stimulating, a bottom-up mood stabilizer. 12.5 mgs put me through the roof. But if it is the only thing you have changed and the sleepines persists, sounds like the lamictal is causing it.
Any other changes?Zana

I have been on 200mg Lamictal / lamotrigine for over a month now. (I titrated up the that dose) I don't have any tremor or shakiness. The main side effect for me is ataxia. Which is latin for butterfingers/clumsy/klutz. I drop stuff and have to watch that last step. . . . I kind of have to concentrate on doing some physical things. I laugh at myself becaue I feel like Chevy Chase doing his impression of Gerald Ford. . . . . Other than this, it makes me feel a little speedy, and I'm not depressed or anxious. Altho sometimes I have this speedy feeling that is *almost* like anxiety but something is missing from the anxiety. What I realized was missing was the *hypervigilance* symptom. I don't scan or worry or look for troubles. That sort of sounds like what an anti-convulsant might do, eh? . . . . . I really like Lamictal so far. I hope-hope-hope it works out and lasts. . . . also, at first I was cranky on it. But that seems to have gone away. Also, I avoid caffeine on it because that adds to the speedy feeling. I never got any euphoria with it. I just basically feel normal. This is essentially my first mood stabilizer. It's going well so far. I hope it really keeps my depressive/anxiety episodes at bay.
This is the end of the thread.
