So, I am back to irritable and frustrated again! The verapamil is helping a little still but the breakthrough rage and feelings of frustration and anger are still underlying every thing I do- I even irritate myself! So, my current meds are
5 mcg cytomel
10 mg Adderall XR
80 mg Verapamil 2-3 times per day
2 mg lunesta (to sleep)
10 mg Zyrtec (for allergies)
and a stool softener to combat the side effects of verapamil.....ANY suggestions Anyone? I hate the new person I have become- a lazy, angry, pathetic, short tempered witch (replace the w in witch with a b).
Therapy doesn't help so please don't go down that road- I have been in therapy FOREVER! This is definitely chemically related but what is going on here??????? I need some suggestions from those of you familiar with the neurotransmitters and the effects they have on the brain.... My brain is so messed up now I can't get back to normal (I should add, this is better than it was a few months ago- but still not worth living)I should add that, without the cytomel and adderall, I am one with the couch and can't work - so, I tried slowly increasing them (1 at a time) but this seems to be the highest dose I can take of either medication that is effective and without side effects.

Don't know much about the neurotransmitter side of things, but wonder if the lunesta might be contributing. I get much more irritable, and irritability is one of my problems, on Ambien and they are related. Perhaps someone with more knowledge could chime in. Found Paxil made me much less irritable, but couldn't bear sexual sides.

Same here with neurotransmitters are you angry at something in your life? A person, job? Just a thought. Phillipa

Hi FM,
Sorry to hear you're still in the thick of it--I've been thinking of you. I don't have much to contribute here--don't know the neurotransmitter side of this stuff. Are you taking the cytomel once per day? Personally, I had a very rough ride with cytomel--huge peaks and valleys! (I took 5 3x per day.) I found it energizing to the point of irritation/anxiety. (And w/ my small son--not a good scene.) Your dose is much smaller. And many here use it successfully. (Though I was reading on a link Shasling provided that t3 (cytomel) in conjunction with t4 has promise as a mood stabilizer....)
Do you have ADD? (I forget--sorry.) Do you think the adderall has side effects such as irritation? (I take d-amp spansules along with instant release to cover any dips in mood. Seems pretty smooth.)
And I also forget: have you had a complete thyroid panel done up? (Just a thought.)
(Another thought, and I don't mean to be a benzo-pusher. I take klonopin 2-3x per day with good results, and it supposedly had mild mood stabilizing effects.)
However, this doesn't address the underlying question which is one of cause and how to approach it. Hope you get the input you need.
warm regards

Hi Candace!
Are you taking the cytomel once per day? YES< never thought about taking it more than once- easy to try though!
t3 (cytomel) in conjunction with t4 has promise as a mood stabilizer....) Might try this too!
>
> Do you have ADD? YES
Do you think the adderall has side effects such as irritation? No, only if dose is too high- without it I don't function very well......
>
> And I also forget: have you had a complete thyroid panel done up? I did and it was borderline low so that's why we tried adding cytomel.... also, the thought was to help me function as I have all the symptoms of hypothyroid (cold all the time, fatigued, ill feeling, low metabolism, etc)

> Thanks for the input!
I am so sick of feeling this way!

I'm angry with my life and the way I feel- does that count? I don't really have a reason or situatiin to be angry about- little things like not wanting to get out of bed and having to get up in the AM can trigger a rage..... If it was a situation I think I would be able to identify it but I can't really so I think it's just everything and nothing in particular..... does that make sense?

I've tested that theory and the thing is i cant sleep without the lunesta so i end up irritable anyway......

I don't know your diagnosis, but it could possibly be the adderal. Also, for me valium works amazingly well, i'm like a different person with it on board...and that's a good thing. I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time, work with your doc about adjusting/changing some of your meds.

I don't know your diagnosis either but it doesn't sound as if you are getting good AD coverage and anger can certainly be a symptom of depression. I both cytomel and adderal can cause irritability. I would take the cytomel several times a day if you continue it because it has a short half life.
