Wellbutrin plus Parnate?

Posted by uncouth on August 28, 2009, at 21:25:30

Hi folks.
I am currently on 522mg of Aplenzin = 450mg bupropion. It has improved my energy level but that's about it. Also improved my ability to study, but mood hasn't changed.

I am also in the process of tapering off Luvox. I meet with my pdoc in 1.5 weeks. I was on MAOIs a while back, and I'm wondering if I can go on an MAOI with Wellbutrin? I would love to try Parnate with it. I know it is "technically" contraindicated, but MAOIs have been used with TCAs, so I don't see why they couldn't be used with Wellbutrin.

I'm afraid that 9 months of MAOI use has permanently altered my brain such that I cannot get well unless an MAOI is part of the equation.

How did you react to Parnate while you were on it?

Yes, Wellbutrin and Parnate can be combined. I tried it, but it made me dysphoric. I'm sure there are people who respond wonderfully to the combination. Just because you are taking Wellbutrin doesn't mean that you can take less Parnate, though. You will probably still need 40-80mg of it.

That's what I found too. It worked well but it didn't work on seretonin at all.
