Twitches from Seroquel?

Posted by SheilaC on November 21, 2009, at 17:58:27

Ok - I love seroquel for the sheer fact it knocks me out and I sleep great.

One thing I noticed is that I do get some twiches (eye twitches, thumb twitches, etc.) I'm guessing these could be a side effect of Seroquel.

Also - Seroquel has worked as a mood stabilizer for me, along with Klonopin.

Should I be worried about the twitches?

I wouldn't mind trading out my Seroquel for another mood stabilizer that would help me sleep.

The eye twitches are probably unrelated to seroquel. There's a term for those -- they have to do with a pulsing blood vessel. I got worried about those when I took perphenazine (an older anti-psychotic), but my doc said not to worry and they went away. I also got thumb twitches on perphenazine and those made him cut the dose. They were really mild though. I'd just notice my thumb sort of twitching and trembling as I was reading. It would come and go. I would ask your doc.

The thum twitches mean something. And of course it depends on how much they are twitching but you need to see your doctor soon about them. And if you start getting them other places, stop the med even before you see your doctor. Usually the titches stop when you stop your meds, but sometimes they never go away which is why you need to deal with them now. Your doctor will know whether or not you should stay on the med. I hope that you can because you have reactions to so many meds that you don't have too many left to try!

Hi Sheila,

My pdoc said thumb twitches were not a good sign--withdrew the med (Abilify). I am sorry this is such a long process for you.
