Whenever I start to feel really better from depression I usually wake up confused about what time / year it is.
My memory feels like it jumps back in time about 5 or 10 years. For instance, I wake up thinking that my dog (which has been dead for 10 years) is alive. When I walk down the steps I keep thinking I will see the house as it was 10 years back (ie old renovations etc).
Its like this trippy jump back in time but I feel more in touch with who I was.
Does anyone else have this - the feeling that I drug takes you back to feel like you're living in an older era - perhaps a time when you were less depressed.

I know exactly what you mean. It might be a manifestation of state-specific memory.

It sounds like the as-needed dosing of amitriptyline is helping? What else? Do I remember correctly, you were also taking Ritalin with it?
I know what you mean about the time warp thing. The few brief days I have felt remarkable improvement were like going back in time 20 years.
Hey Link I apologize for going off-target here, but could I ask you some questions?
-What dose amitriptyline?
-Is there a way to describe in words the difference between how nortriptyline and amitriptyline feel compared to each other? Side effect differences as well?
-What else with it? (Ritalin, what dose, frequency?)

> LinkadgeIt's not necessarily when I'm getting better, but I have gotten stuck in modes where I'm preoccupied with earlier eras in my life and remembering things and situations that other people don't seem to have reflected on much. I guess nostalgia in at least some form is an aspect of depression.

I'm taking amitriptyline about twice a week, somewhere between 25mg and 50mg each time. I take the ritalin as needed, no more than 5mg every other day or so.
The amitriptyline seems to just hit the core sadness/worthlessness cluster better. The nortriptyline seemed to help the mood a little but it didn't make me feel like myself. The amitriptyline gives me these snapshots where I really feel like me...."there I am!!.....where the hell did I go?". I feel this really solid sense of normal well being. The nortriptyline made me feel.......hollow.
