I think this is as good as it gets

Posted by Maxime on December 3, 2009, at 19:48:39

I've been on the Nortriptyline for a month now with 80 mg of Parnate. I feel good. I still have some down days, but that is in response to some bad things that are going on in my life. There is also my eating disorder which causes a different sort of depression. I am starving my brain so I can't imagine that it's very happy with me.

So I think that this is as good as it gets. And I am okay with that. The only thing I need to be careful of are hypomanic episodes in which case I will go on Trileptal if it doesn't interfere with the meds I am on.

I am content.

What a difference a few drugs make.

Now you should have an easier time dealing with the issues in your life that are giving you trouble. One thing though. Sometimes, emerging from depression makes you more aware of issues that need attention. After all, you are no longer numb to everything in the world. You begin to participate. Having not participated in a long time will leave you with a bit of a mess to clean up and a life to build. You might need to make new connections and reestablish old ones. Take it slow.

Scott, you are so right. My relationship with my elderly mother has already improved because I am able to handle her better. She is in the early stages of alzheimers and it can be draining. But I am getting stronger and dealing better.

Thanks for the reminder.

I find this to be an awesome update. Very cool!

In longterm trials, the general trend is that people who do well during the initial phase (2 to 3 months) are doing even better at 9 to 12 months.

You've come a long way and I wish smooth roads ahead.

Thank you. I hope I am doing better in 9-12 months. That would be awesome!

Yeah, things can keep going.

You sound pretty positive about things. That is very good biologically. To "protect" your new brain function, it is a good idea to limit your psychosocial stress. This doesn't always mean that you must limit your exposure. It can mean that you are psychologically better equipped to handle situations and inner conflicts. There is such a thing as "medication breakthrough", where excessive psychosocial stress leads to relapse.

I am VERY happy for you. After all of these years of relentless, treatment-resistant pain, you deserve as much wellness as can be achieved.

It's so good to read this. It gives me the slightest bit of hope that there will come a day that I'm not typing through tears and wondering how I'm going to get through the evening. I heard you used to be feeling like that too, and I'm so thrilled you're feeling better!
