Finding it hard to write fluently!!?

Posted by Englishman006 on December 29, 2009, at 7:15:23

I've noticed in the last couple of years that I'm finding it harder and harder to keep the pen flowing. I used to be good at writing and English generally, but now I'm always second guessing myself. I write and rewrite the same sentence over and over, correcting it and wording it differently each time. Even this piece of writing is taking a painfully long time to get right.

It must be the effects of one of my meds...

Lamictal 200mg?
Dexamphetamine 60mg?
Memantine 20mg?
Seroquel at night 25mg?
Fluoxetine.. don't think so, as been on for many years.
Amisulpride 25mg?

Has anyone got any ideas / suffer a similar problem?

Thanks Shaun.

Hi Shaun.

You might want to first try reducing the dosage of Lamictal from 200mg to 150mg. Although Lamictal is often thought of as a "clean" drug, some people experience profound impairments of memory and cognition with it.

For me, it was fluoxetine (generic). Discontinued it after many, many years and my brain fog miraculously lifted. The difference was quite striking. I'm still not as sharp as I used to be, but much improved.

Thanks Scott,

Funny you should say that, as I am cutting down to 150mg Lamictal. It has been a couple of weeks now along with cutting down on the Amisulpride from 50 to 25mg. Having some brain fog and the apathy is maybe a little worse. I occasionally take the full doses again to see if it's just withdrawal.. not sure.

One positive is that at 150mg Lamictal my energy problems/ fatigue are much improved!! And I thought it was Dex causing my exhaustion -which would have been much, much harder to reduce. So that's very good news!

I recently cut back to 150 mg of Lamictal from 200mg. I have some problems remembering names and will sometimes stumble with words. This has cleared up with a lower dose. Can't complain too much though, lamictal has done wonders for me.
