Hi guys,
I've been on Nardil for most of the past 12 years. My diagnosis is treatment resistant, atypical, double depression with social anxiety disorder. The Nardil has always kept me out of the major depression, but I still carry a level of dysthymia at all times. Sometimes bad, sometimes not so bad. Plus I just do not have the level of motivation and drive that I had before my first major depression.I've augmented with clonazepam, bupropion, and notriptyline plus quitiapine and trazodone for sleep. I think a mild stimulant would help, but can't get my current MD to prescribe even modafinal. At this time, I don't have access to an experienced PDOC.
What have other people used as an augmenter with Nardil that seems to help with the symptoms of dysthymia or lack of motivation?
Thanks,
Jedi

my diagnosis is TR double depression with social anxiety. I take nardil and olanzapine and I too still experience dysthymia much of the time. At first this combination worked wonderfully though so praps you could try augmenting with olanzapine (beware the weight gain though)

Jedi,
I take Lithium as augmenter. It has helped a bit. However, yes, I still have dysthymia at certain levels at all times. It is painful to feel this way, even though it is not depression. Tried increasing Lithium, but I think side effects are getting worse. I want to ask my doctor about Stratterra. Provigil, for me, was easy to get from psychiatrists. However, it gave me a headache.

Hi Phillipa, The last PDOC I had absolutely refused to prescribe Nardil, even though it was the only med that has ever brought me out of major depression. Took me months of writing letters in my depleted state to find someone to prescribe Nardil.
I am still upset at that PDOC. He would have let me die before prescribing what I needed to get well. Lots of egos out there. Have to find someone who will listen. I live in a small town of about 50,000 people. Unless you are on public assistance there are NO PDOCS that live here. I think they tend to congregate in the major cities and university towns where there is more business and others like them.

I've never been on Nardil, but I think a try of some thyroid T3 - Cytomel might help. It is a little activating/stimulating. A down side is that it could worsen anxiety. I think that is a risk of almost anything that helps your motivation.

agree with this
also could try alprazolam as your benzo, can have AD effect.
plus the non-drug things like w-3s, mag/zinc light box, cold showers, etc
