Hello all,
I have been on Nardil (60 mg/day) for about ten months now and it would be hard to overstate how profound a change it has made on my life. I am posting today, however, in the hope that some of the longer-term MAOI users or biological savants who hang around here might help me out with a problem I am having that may or may not be connected w/ the Nardil; I can't seem to find anything directly on point either on Psychobabble or in PubMed or other literature searches, although I freely admit that my scientific background is extremely limited. So here goes: When I started Nardil, I almost immediately lost my appetite as well as a good fifty pounds. Finding only two attestations of similar cases in the medical literature (one w/ a geriatric patient, the other in studies w/ bulimics) and one on Psychobabble (from someone who, like me, exercised a great deal), I let the issue slide, especially after my weight and appetite leveled out, probably about four months ago. Over the last four or so months, though, I have developed some troublesome gastrointestinal disturbances: excessive gas, bloating after meals, and copious and really smelly (but not diarrheal) bowel movements. I don't have medical insurance but was finally able to see a GI, who has so far cleared me for celiac sprue, giardia and problems w/ fat digestion. I am still waiting on more tests (a Gram Stain and a fecal WBC) but I wonder if there is something in particular which the Nardil should have me concerned about?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have taken Nardil 60mg about the same length of time as you have. I was on 75mg for a time. Nardil has helped me, but it was a whirlwind of side effects, including excessive gas, bloating, smelling, etc. Especially on 75mg. However on 60mg it isn't nearly as noticeable or bad. I wouldn't be too concerned about your similar problems as I would guess that they are medication related, and nothing systemic. Regarding weight loss, that's a new one. Nardil usually causes weight gain -- about 5 pounds for me, even as a frequent exerciser.

lucky you losing weight! I've gained a stone and a half on olanz and nardil. It gives me constipation and lots of trumps.
