Saw my doc today. Even though I have been feeling pretty stable on 300mg Lithium, I have gained 10 lbs in the past 2 weeks! My doc is not pleased. He is thinking of switching me over to Geodon. He feels that in the long run I won't have the weight gain issues.
Does anyone take Geodon for mood stabilization? Does it help with slight depression?
My main issue has been inappropriate rage issues. I cannot take Lamictal and didn't get much out of Tegretol or Trileptal.
My doc is really wanting me to lose weight now that I am considered obese.
He wants me to take 40mg of Geodon in the morning along with my tiny dose of 5mg Adderall.
Then at night he wants to me take 50mg Seroquel along with Klonopin for sleep.
Will 40mg of Geodon help? I do not want to go back to my awful, mean, bitchy self.

I wouldn't do it, just b/c of all the "tardive" syndromes associated with antipsychotic use (both newer and older ones). You have tardive dyskinesia, tardive dystonia, tardive dementia, tardive psychosis, tardive tics, tardive gait...it just goes on and on.
Although tardive dyskinesia gets all the attention, I'd be worried about tardive psychosis. There's some indication that one reason people on long-term antipsychotics "need" their meds is b/c brain changes caused by the pills means going off of them results in problems more severe than what they had before using the medication. That kinda sucks.Have you tried depakote+metformin? therapy? supplements?

Depakote put the weight on me, which is why I agreed to try Lithium from my old doc.
I do worry about the kidney problems and other long term issues with lithium use.

Sheila an old babbler from here takes geodon and she's thin as can be. But no other antipsychotics or mood stabalizers. Phillipa

I did notice anxiety which is not usual for me.
Good luck,

i've heard that adding a low-dose of an antipsychotic can help ameliorate certain SSRI side-effects. i'd be curious if anyone's tried the combo with success? i've been thinking about trying a low dose of an SSRI with a dash of Geodon.

Geodon really helped me with mood stabilization as well as anxiety. It is very sedating for me though, I see pdoc on Monday and hope I can lower my dose. I'm not sure if I want to be on it long term. Lamictal and Klonopin work well for me with minimal side effects. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to prevent a bad mixed episode that started about 7 weeks ago. I have been on Geodon for about 5 weeks now.
I think it is worth a try, it isn't suppose to cause weight gain like Seroquel and Zyprexa. I have not gained a single pound. herpills

It didn't help my anger issues. When I switched from zyprexa to geodon I found myself being angry all the time with everyone. It didn't go away till I went back on zyprexa.
Here's a suggestion, try perphenazine. It may actualy help you lose weight and it can be calming. I don't find it as good as zyprexa but taken with the zyprexa it seems to help and I'm not gaining weight anymore for the last 3 years.
