It's hard to find an antipsychotic that works on anxiety and doesn't cause weight gain.
The best I can think of is Risperdal. It really depends on the person. Abilify is quite new and "usually" doesn't cause much weight gain. But it doesn't work on anxiety for many people.
Risperdal and Abilify have a good record for augmenting Pristiq and other antidepressants.
My next choices would be Geodon and Neurontin. Unfortunately Neurontin seems to loose its effect after just a couple months for quite a few people.
Lamictal has little to no weight gain but may not help with anxiety...
Look into Risperdal

Have you tired perphenazine? It may work on anxiety. Its not as good as zyprexa. But may be worth a try. Let me know if it works, if you try it. For me its the next best thing after zyprexa. I've never takin it without zyprexa, but it does seem to help.

For anyone who reads this, I have SAD and OCD followed by alcoholism.

Hi Phillipa, I may want to soon. I've tried Seroquel in combo with AD's, it only helped me sleep, even up to 300mg/day. I tried Lamictal for a year and maxed out at highest dosage for 4 months. It did not help me augment Nardil. I was in the psych ward when they mixed Nardil/Lamictal/clonazepam.
Nardil makes me waaaay to tired. Parnate is GOOD but it may cause mania if you have any Bipolar issues.

Now I sit at 20mg prozac/day. and 1mg clonazepam BID. Some days I take no Clonazepam so I dont get benzo addiction. Lucky for me benzos have never been a problem, only helpful. I know that 70% of people will have a very hard time coming off benzo's. Lucky for me and you Phillipa we are in the 30%

I take some perphenazine daily and I can take more as needed for anxiety or depression. I also take the beta blocker Bystolic (nebivolol) to counter the tachycardia, heart palpitations, and anxiety that my antidepressant desipramine gives me. Most of my psych meds are prescribed by my pdoc, but the Bystolic is from my family practice doctor. I take the 2.5 mg dose of it daily. I asked if I could also take some more of the Bystolic as needed, and she wrote my Rx that I could have one (more) a week as needed. I was kind of mad and thought that was pretty stingy of her, but I have only used it that way once in over a year, so it has been okay.
A nice thing about perphenazine and Bystolic is that they help anxiety and yet are not addictive. Also relatively weight-neutral I think.
