What is the fastest SSRI effect you've experienced

Posted by gritslad on January 23, 2011, at 20:29:25

When I first started taking Prozac, I felt better in about a week. Perhaps it was placebo or just the idea of taking action. My 17 yo was just put on Celexa, and she felt better after half a pill. Now that's got to be placebo combined with a feeling of vindication that she's not just a moody teen as I suggested might be a possiblity. I guess I shouldn't be complaining since yesterday she was screaming like a banshee and has had no focus for quite some time.
Thoughts?

This obviously isnt an ssri, but the first time I started taking wellbutrin, I started feeling better the first day, reaching a much better state by day 3. This last time I started taking it, it started helping on day 3, though I tried to increase it too fast and it brought on unwanted added anxiety.

Anyway -- my 2cents is that sometimes even a touch of the right med can really start to help within just days. I recently had a disastrous trial with parnate, but I know people who've started feeling better on it after 1 dose, so there ya go.

They work for me after a couple hours now.
IN the past i had nothing but horrid side effects from them, one time a couple years back i was so suicidal and desperate that i took an ssri tablet, lexepro i think, and a couple hours later all suicidal thoughts were gone.

Wierdest thing was a didn't have a single side effect, normally one dose would cause me nausea, headaches and sexual dysfuntion, but now i don't get any, just a very fast lift in mood. When i'm not taking them the suicidal thoughts come right back but i feel better again after 1 dose.

I'll take it. Day two of half a Celexa, and DD is sweet and focused. I've taken just about all of the SSRIs, including Celexa, and fortunately none has made me suicidal--just the opposite.

I notice effects of a dose change (either up or down) in Lexapro on day 3 after the dose change. It's like clockwork and I can count on it.

Unless the drug is specially a releasing agent, it is near to impossible to feel results within one dose. That phenomenon can be chalked up to placebo. The placebo effect is very powerful.

Roso just remembered first dose of prozac 20mg and wallpapered a foyer had the wallpaper for for three years. So much energy. But next day turned into anxiety, then panic and never took it again. But seriously I did feel it no placebo as had no idea what to expect. Phillipa

I hope you get on your knees and give thanks to whoever or whatever you believe in for getting relief after two hours from an SSRI.
