I'm interested in knowing about experiences with Abilify and weight gain, such as, does the amount you are taking seem to correlate with the amount of weight gained? Is bloating also a side effect? Finally, has anyone gone off it for these reasons and if so, how long did it take to taper off the meds, and did you then start taking something else in it's place? And did the weight come off fairly easily? Of course, I will check with my Dr., but there is a lot of knowledge on this board I value as well. Thanks!

I gained a lot of weight on abilify, both on 5mg and 10mg, even 2mg, which caused weight gain but no benefit to me. I did not lose the weight when I stopped. In fact, over a year later, I'm still trying to lose the weight. I should add that it had nothing to do with how much I ate or exercised. I tried dieting on abilify and increasing my exercise to limit weight gain, but I still gained 2-3 pounds a week. Same thing happened on risperdal and zyprexa.

hey. I take 30mgs/ Abilify. This time around, I gained 50lbs. When I took 20mgs, I gained 25lbs. I'm pretty much stuck with Abilify--I respond well to "atypical" neuroleptics, and Abilify is about as good as it gets for me--so I'm trying to diet and exercise.
The weight gain has stabilized, but the weight loss is taking a while. I' doing a rather severe diet that I've tried in the past with great success (rather rapid weight loss), but now the weight is coming off, but its taking longer. I think the Abilify has made it harder to get un-fat.
In the past, when I dropped the Abilify and then went on a severe diet, the weight came off rather quickly.
