Difference Between Benzos And Atypical Antipsychot

Posted by Phillipa on May 2, 2011, at 13:00:21

Ever since that message was posted that benzodiazepines are the same as anti-psychotics or atypicals I can find nothing scientific to divide them into different categories. Hence fear them now. Okay know benzos for seizures and anxiety. Can someone post something that tells the differences? Thanks Phillipa

antipsychotics work on dopamine and serotonin receptors, sometimes other receptors. Its all about tranquilizing somebody by reducing the amount of dopamine hitting their D2 receptors.

BZD work on GABA. They may have an indirect influence on dopamine, but mostly they're sedatives and muscle relaxers.

Guys this was always what I also thought. Then began the google searching and they were compared except antipychotics tri something. Any one able to find a good link? 41 years on benzos would hate to think on antipsychotics. Thanks I know can count on you. Phillipa
