Can you spot depression?

Posted by clubfitter on August 4, 2011, at 17:00:09

Can you spot people who are depressed. I think I have a REALLY good radar when it comes to identifying those who are suffering. You can see it in their face and eyes.

I know a lot of people on antidepressants and they must work for them as they are usually working and seem happy. Smiling, Laughing, most on SSRI's a couple wellbutrin. Phillipa

I can't necessarily see it in others, certainly not strangers, but my husband says he can see it in my eyes when I'm depressed, no matter how hard I try to hide it. He says my eyes look dead.

I think you can sometimes, but not all the time by any means - some people are very good at hiding how they feel

depends on how depressed they are.
it's not a good scene when you have to go to work depressed
with that lovely monotone voice, and the slow moving stuff
but that's just one kind of depressed.
there's also the oh god, just let me have this one moment where I can shut down...
finding free moments to stare into space
trying to act "normal" when in social situations

I don't know if I can spot it? I just know some of how I feel. but... I do see some of this in other people.

I interpreted your thread wrong the first time. You are asking if the person is depressed not if on meds sorry for that. Yes I think I can spot a depressed person. Conversation leads to them talking about it. But you need the radar to see who needs to talk. I think I start a thread on whether you can spot someone responding to depression treatment. Again apologies for interpreting wrong. Phillipa

>> some people are very good at hiding how they feel

I try hard but the older I get the harder it is. Phillipa
