Trimipramine / Surmontil experiences anyone?

Posted by uncouth on December 14, 2011, at 23:56:19

i convinced pdoc to let me try trimipramine for my refractory insomnia. i would be interested in hearing about anyone's experience with this drug for insomnia, or depression. it is a TCA but with a very unique mechanism of action, more akin to a atypical antipsychotic really. but its the ONLY sleep med that doesn't screw with sleep architecture and actually IMPROVES sleep. i am up to 50mg, but i still can't fall asleep, i take my trimipramine and try to fall asleep for the next 1.5-2 hours but so far the last few days of trying, i can't do it and require my saphris dose again which sucks. and i'm really taking trimipramine to help with early morning awakening, but so far it hasn't helped. i may be on too low of a dose, so we'll see. seeing dr. on monday.

anyway anyone got any experience with this oddball drug?

Some time back I looked at the list of supplements you take and I thought then that many of them would aggravate or cause insomnia with me. R alpha lipoic acid for one.

No experience with Surmontil. I am interested in what you say about its beneficial effect on sleep architecture.

I took surmontil for depression some years ago and when I was awake I felt sleepy, I slept 2-3 hours in the afternoon and about 11-13 hours at night. Very sedating.
