Haven't tried it, but I do take a whole lot of B vitamins and they work well. I'd give it a go, especially if your insurance will cover it.

I took 7.5 mg for about a month but now the Deplin site has found l5mg to work better. It can't hurt that I know of there is a thread on alternative with response from Deplin representative. Phillipa

I've been taking Deplin for about 4 months. I think it helps, but you could also try supplementing with methylfolate (not folic acid) to see if you get a response. Deplin is same thing but much higher dose. What other meds are you taking?

yah i just cant really find any info on how it is supposed to affect the brain. i like to know how things are thought to affect the brain before i take them. all ive found is that deplin helps regulate the neurotransmitters, and not much else.

Poser938-
Im familiar with Deplin and will attempt to answer how Deplin, which is a high dose of L-methylfolate, may work. Anything over 1mg of L-methylfolate has to be in a prescription form which may clarify why it is hard to find. Deplin actually has emperical studies that demonstrate efficacy over placebo. Folic acid does not cross the blood brain barrier, only the converted form L-methylfolate. L-methylfolate is required for BH4, BH4 is required for Tryptophan and Tyrosine. More Tryptophan and Tyrosine are needed for the three neurotransmitters. More neurotransmitters may mean addressing depression, hence the SNRIs and SSRIs with "re-uptake". As much as 70% of depressed patients may be folate deficient, requiring adequate folate. Hope this helps!

Can it hurt you if not deficient and why no 7.5 and now 15mg recommended? How does it affect anxiety? Thanks Phillipa

I tried it and did nothing. I found a B-complex to be much more helpfull.

No, more than likely will not hurt you, just excreted through the kidney system. However, if you are depressed, in all likely hood, one would be folate deficient. The two doses are based on Psychiatrist conducting placebo controlled double blind studies that demonstrate efficacy compared to placebo. The 7.5mg Deplin showed 60 days faster to getting better over two years when added to SNRI or SSRI. The 15mg Deplin showed an impact in as little as 30 days when added to SNRI or SSRI. Hope this helps.

I don't have any idea how to find out about that. Deplin made a rapid and dramatic difference for me though.
