ADDers: Stimulants with less tolerance

Posted by zonked on January 14, 2012, at 10:16:35

Hi all:

I ran into my Dexedrine tolerance problem again. Grr.

Five days in at 40 b.i.d. (yep, I need a lot) and the dopamine is gone, or something, because I ended up dumping the bottle again. I didn't want to end up taking more (in the past, this has had no effect).

I am thinking maybe Vyvanse, since it is supposedly once a day dosing.

Depression-wise, I have a strange story to relay - I entered a terrible mini-episode around Christmas, and began drinking (not typical of me at all).. nightly, for about 2 weeks. One of the worst periods of my life. I quit, and within a week Nardil started working better. What a strange situation.

On the hormonal front, I am still on 5mg/5gm a day of Androgel, and finally have an endocrinologist appointment later this month so I can get that sorted out. From everything I've heard, it will have to go higher - last test my Testosterone was lower than when I started!

More and more and more accepting that I will just be moodier than other people and, possibly, until drugs with other mechanisms appear (sorry, no Strattera for me) I may just have to deal with ADD without meds for it.

I do not do well on the Ritalin-family drugs, they raise my blood pressure and make me anxious as hell.

-z

Vyvanse is formulated so tolerance and abuse are non issues with the drug.
