Seems a lot of people at one time loved lexapro was their magic pill. I haven't found any magic in the low dose I'm trying. Does anyone out there feel lexapro is a superior or good ad? Thanks Phillipa

lexapro didnt do anything until I hit 10mg. And it didnt do much until I hit 20mg. At that point it worked on the depression and the irritability. But the apathy was pretty bad for me.

Most reports tent to show that Zoloft and Lexapro are the two best SSRI's on avarage, followed by Paxil and Celexa, with Prozac at the bottom of the chart, though the differences arnt great.
I was meaning to ask you Phillipa, as you are trying to quit your benzos, have you ever tried Atarax for your anxiety?

Yes Jono as they only make me tired now and sleep without with the experimentations I do. Raise and lower. Last two nights 7.5 mg of valium instead of l0mg. The .25mg at night know how wise to do two at a time. Phillipa

I think Lexapro is a good med. Helped my depression but did nothing for my anxiety. (However my mother and sister both take it for anxiety and it works for them?)Couldn't tolerate the higher doses (insomnia, sexual side effects). What dose are you taking? I took 5mg for a couple years and that was enough to help with depression. Which symptoms are you targeting?

Only 2.5mg sometimes 5mg but also the 50mg of luvox. I guess ocd and fears of all kinds not being able to stay alone or go out alone unless it's to ride my bike at night. Phillipa

I have taken Lexapro quite often & recently and for me it's #1 in the SSRIs, to which I'm quite sensitive. Minimum side-effects for maximum efficiency, IMHO. I need 20 mg/day to get benefit from it; one pdoc tried to take me up to 60 mg, but I quickly got overwhelming anxiety at higher doses. At 20 mg/day, just about zero side-effects except the inevitable sexual ones.
I agree it can be levelling to the point of anhedonia. I'm now on Cymbalta (SNRI) which works much better for me. However, Cymbalta isn't covered by my drug plan, so I rely on free samples from my pdoc; I keep Lexapro/Cipralex around for emergencies if I run out of Cymbalta. BTW, never had any problem switching between the two with just a few days overlap.

Do you find that cymbalta alleviates any musculoskeletal pain you might have? I do have arthritis and when on it didn't have pain when came off I had back pain. But before when on it no pain. Now it's all the time. Phillipa
