Excessive Dreaming

Posted by Deneb on March 11, 2012, at 17:21:13

I don't consider my excessive dreaming to be a problem personally, but it does interfere with my life somewhat.

I enjoy sleeping and dreaming so much that I would rather dream than live life in the real world.

My dreams are extremely vivid and very long lasting. I swear it's like I'm actually living a second life in my dreams. If I remembered every detail upon waking, I'm sure I could write a really good movie or book based on my dream.

The thing is, I sleep a LOT. I often go to bed at 4 am during the weekends and don't wake until close to 5 PM the next day. I'm dreaming for hours and hours. They're very vivid and sometimes I'm lucid in them.

I really enjoy my dreams, but I think I'm sleeping too much.

Is there anything I can do to not sleep so much?

I don't have advice for you to stop, but I am interested in the lucid dream thing: have you ever tried to direct your dream, solve life problems in the dream, etc? I have heard of people doing this.

Yes, I often direct my dreams when I am lucid. Sometimes it's just exploring my surroundings. I open doors to explore rooms or go outside, go into stores, eat foods, drink stuff, touch things. It's neat because I feel and taste everything.

A lot of the time I end up having sex. LOL. That or flying.

Sometimes I summon things up. Once I summoned this flying creature. I rode on it and flew around.

Other times I have fun flying through walls, jumping out windows etc. It's really realistic so it is thrilling. Sometimes I hesitate because it's so real. But then I see signs that it's a dream so I just jump out the window.

I don't find myself thinking to solve my real life problems in my dreams. Often I'm just wanting immediate gratification. Hence the sex and the flying and eating and stuff. LOL

I sleep a lot too. Think its because of my zyprexa. Before it I hardly ever slept. Nothing I can do about it, I need the zyprexa. I also like being able to sleep now. So not sure I'm upset about it. Just that it becomes a problem meeting up with people during daylight hours. I too go to sleep between 4am and 9am, and sleep to 4pm or 9pm.

I dream a lot but have a lot of nightmares. Last night seriously got up for real got back in bed and really thought my husband was gone had left me. I even woke him and told him that. Must be anxiety or hidden fears? Phillipa

Sometimes I have such vivid but mundane dreams that I don't know when I wake up whether they happened or not. For instance, before I woke up this morning, I dreamed I was ironing and when I got up, I wasn't sure whether I dreamed this or it really happened. I went into the laundry room to make sure the iron wasn't turned on. It wasn't. Weird.
