Too sleepy on 5mg escitalopram. Should I try less?

Posted by Franz on March 30, 2012, at 12:10:02

Hello, the initial anxiety due to escitalopram passed but now I am sleepy on 5 mg. What does this mean? I canīt take more due to tinnitus. It has reduced anxiety and I tolerate stress better but I canīt be sleepy. Does this mean I should try 2.5 mg or that this drug is not for me?

Personally I would not take a med that gave me tinnitus. I think it could go away if don't take it. Could it be your bodies way of saying it's not the right one? Phillipa

You could always lower the dose. With some simple home tricks you can make a custom dose just about any size. My Lyme doctor had patients start on a single drop...1/10th mg...some patients did well on as little as 1mg. But the tinnitus....hmmm...I don't know maybe a lower dose would help, but still it's just kind of worrisome, almost like the body is trying saying the stuff is toxic or something.
I am prone to tinnitus and many meds make it worse. One that actually made it better, almost silent, and helped with mood problems a lot, was Savella.

Thanks bleauberry. Like you I have a mild tinnitus that gets worse with drugs or stimulatns, itīs not caused but aggravated by escitalopram.

Maybe I try taking it at night. Feeling sleepy makes me depressed, I am very tired of this.

Good to know about milnacipran. Unfortunately it is not covered by my health plan like tianeptine, but it is cheaper. I am not sure which one to choose in case I switch.
