What helps with Motivation besides stimulants..

Posted by alchemy on July 9, 2012, at 15:30:23

What helps with motivation besides stimulants, provigil, or wellbutrin?
Provigil sucks for me. Im already on 300 wellbutrin and have tried going up. Stimulants can sometimes help a little. If they do, its such a relief and time does not tick by so slowly.

I guess its like asking what helps with depression, and they usually hold hands. There r drugs but it doesnt mean your body will respond.

the main thing I recommend is provigil and maybe with wellbutrin...it will give a soft somewhat like stimulant effect you would get from adderall...but its just alot diffrent. Avoid psych ward doctors...unless you know then well and they know you and are willing to work with you....i just hate being considered another patient after they have seen near 100 of them before me. It's difficult to work with these because usally they are stressed and can't make intimate understanding with the patient. Find a private practice doctor for ADHD or depression. But moving on...

anways...you should check out the tyicrlic antidepressants....like Vivacil there ok...there not active on the dopamine terminals but they do work on NE mainly the stimulating ones.

The only stimulant I do recommend is Focalin for this case....check out the XR form, it lasts really long. Concerta lasts the longest already researched on the hours of extened release medications....dexedrie spansules...6 hours...adderall xr about 8...Vyvanse about 7-8..focalin xr maybe 8-10 huurs and concerta 12 hours. I can't say all this is accurate but that's a pretty close bet of what I have read and learned.

good luck, rerember eleborate with your doctor.

I find Vyvanse helpful-- I'm not sure where rj found that 7 hour claim, but Vyvanse lasts 13-14 hours, and has been studied in blood levels to last that long-- it's the longest-acting long-acting. It also varies the least throughout the day.

I know I say this a lot here, but I had fantastic results with Aricept, which treated my anhedonia after being over-prescribed amphetamine-- I augmented it with Adderall, and it made my thoughts really fast, and I felt full of life (although not in a manic way).

I'm so glad I have some hope of a med I can try. Seems like I've tried 30, mostly for depression. Can Aricept also help with mood?

at least in studies of patients with schizophrenia, it's common for researchers to note that mood was elevated, and at the end, patients were requesting to stay on it for this reason. It elevated my mood. I start it again tomorrow.

Antipsychotics make me more depressed. I wonder if this is an indicator of how I would react.

Try Mirapex or Requip. Those can rev you up.
