Switching Back to Ativan from Klonopin

Posted by neuroscience on October 19, 2012, at 11:32:27

I was on ativan for like 5 months, and then I talked to doctor about switching to klonopin because of its longer half life and duration of action. I've been on klonopin for about a week now but I think I want to go back on ativan because it seemed to work better.

When I was on ativan it was 1mg 3x a day.
Klonopin is 1mg 2x a day.

I was really hoping that the klonopin would work but ativan worked better.

I think I could just start taking the ativan again and stop the klonopin especially since I haven't been on klonopin for that long now? I called my doctor and he said I could do this but I just wondered what people thought about it.

I used to cross switch all the time. I didn' have problems. May I ask other than feeling it works better. In what way did you find this. I am currently on both 7.5mg of valium & .5 xanax only at night. And I do remember years ago I did like ativan. Klonopin depressed me but we are all different. Phillipa

Klonopin seems to make me more uninhibited and tired while ativan makes me less tired and helps anxiety better. I also noticed that even though ativan lasts a shorter time, 3 times a day seems to still be good enough so that I don't feel like i'm, withdrawing from it inbetween doses or something.

I also thought maybe I didn't give klonopin enough time but it's been eight days that i've been on it which should be plenty of time to build up in my body.

Just switch back - no cross taper required

Any benzodiazepine can substitute for any other provided the doses are roughly the same
