orthostatic hypotension maybe ativan

Posted by neuroscience on November 1, 2012, at 6:56:38

This is the second day in a row where i've gotten up in the morning and felt like I was going to pass out. The feeling of dizziness keeps lingering though.

I've been on ativan for like 6 months, i tried klonopin for about 2 weeks and switched back to ativan last friday the 26th. I don't know if the switch had anything to do with it.

This happened to me before in the morning but it was pretty rare, maybe like once a month.

I don't see how it could be from 1mg of ativan. But then anything is possible. Withdrawal from klonopin? Phillipa

I tapered off Ativan after I started suffering from interdose withdrawal. The interdose withdrawal was unpleasant, and the taper was even worse. One of my symptoms was hypotension. I had it every day, all day, for three or four weeks. Every time I stood up, I felt dizzy. Then it just went away, and this was before I'd finished my taper. So yours could be caused by the Ativan, or by withdrawal from the Klonopin, or by a combination of the two. I've seen some hypotension discussions on BenzoBuddies.

Hmmm... well if it is caused by them... just hope it doesn't last forever. I was hoping that switching back to ativan wouldn't cause me to withdrawal from klonopin... i still have some klonopin left, maybe i could squeeze in a little dose or something if i thought that was the cause but... i don't know

I don't know about taking both at once. Benzos can be tricky, powerful drugs. All I can say is that the hypotension caused by my tapering did go away.

Well this morning I didn't feel like I was going to pass out and I feel less dizzy so, I don't really know what it is.

I think I might have a sinus infection though. But they never make me feel that way.

Actually I started feeling worse again. What if it is Klonopin withdrawal? What should I do? I don't want to get a seizure. I was on 2mg Klonopin a day, and now I'm taking 3mg Ativan a day. I feel really sick.

Check the benzodiazepine equivalence charts to see how the dosages of the two drugs compare. Look at the Ashton Manual to see what the symptoms of benzodiazapine withdrawal are.

http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/

If you feel that sick, you should see a doctor.

I saw my doctor yesterday and he started me on clorazepate 7.5 three times a day. He didn't seem to think it was klonopin withdrawal that I was having. But maybe he's wrong.

I just took the first dose of clorazepate about an hour ago.

What should I do if I don't think my doctor knows what he's doing? I could see another one but it takes a long time and I won't know if the new doctor I see even knows enough about benzodiazepines. I still have klonopin and ativan left over in case clorazepate doesn't seem to work. And I have two refills left on the ativan, which I think I can still get filled if I have to?

please if anyone can offer insight or experience

Has anyone been on clorazepate before? Is it true about it's unreliable absorption?

This is what is going on. First of all keep in mind that I have Tardive Akathisia.

I was on Ativan from about April till the middle of October. I did very well on it. I thought about trying Klonopin though because I thought it might be better in the long run. I brought this up with my doctor and I was put on Klonopin. I could only stay on it for about two weeks though because I felt worse on it. I ended up switching back to Ativan, my doctor said I could do this.

Ever since I switched back to the Ativan on October 26th, I've felt generally sick. The symptoms are basically the ones I brought up in my other posts. Last friday, I told my doctor about this and he put me on Tranxene.

It's impossible for me to stay on Tranxene. I felt so horrific on it in the last couple of days that I had to start taking Ativan again.

I have no choice but to call him tomorrow then but I'm afraid because I'm not sure if he'll prescribe me Ativan anymore. If I need to see another doctor, it may take too long and I might end up in the ER or something from my symptoms.

I'm afraid of what they'll give me in the ER or if I'm an inpatient because I have Tardive Akathisia. There are many drugs (SSRIs, APs) that will worsen it and cause it to progress even.
