Increase in Lexapro Dosage

Posted by Baseball85 on January 21, 2013, at 12:25:49

Hey Guys,
I have been escitalopram 10mg for about 3 months now(5mg in morning and 5mg at night). It took about 6 weeks for it to really work and has worked pretty well so far except for a few random times. My main issue for starting the meds was terrible morning anxiety right after my first daughter was born.( I had never really had anxiety before) That had since gone away till about a week ago. It has come back but not nearly to the extent that it was before. My doc has recommended that I move up to 15mg for a few weeks but hasn't mentioned that to me before because i did deal with some significant side effects when starting the med for the first 6 weeks. He has told me that most men my age(28) need 20mg for anxiety. Should I except side effects if i move to 15mg and then 20mg slowly over a few weeks? Has anyone noticed a significant difference when upping their dose? Thanks!

I was on Lexapro for a long time. My dose got up to 40mg. All I can tell you is that at that dose it no longer worked for me as an antidepressant, but it did still have anxiolytic effects...yep, some SSRIs, Lexapro, Zoloft, eg, can be very effective at fighting anxiety. I'd guess what you're experiencing is more like new drug jitters. Once your dose is up to something like 20mg and you've been on it a while, I think you'll experience the switch. Good luck!

I'f go to 20mg definatly, as what your doc said is right, generaly people need a higher dose for anxiety than for depression

You also have the option of adding some Atarax (say 50mg three times a day as needed0 to your lexapro - it works in a different way to lexapro and can be a good add on.

Take 5mg with 50mg of luvox and still need nightime benzo but I think you should do it. I didn't know taken twice a day thought once a day? Phillipa
