just curious, if you consistently took a drug with, say, a 60-100 hour half-life every 3 days (because the standard dose was too high for you), would you still eventually reach a steady-state? or would you somehow have to co-ordinate the half-life with the number of days between dosing?
feeling too dumb to work out this mathematical quandry.

It would seem, by your description, that it would simply take three times as long to reach a steady state at that dosing schedule but the 60-100 hour half life is a variability of nearly 50 percent, so it's difficult to say, but at the minimum, it would appear that it would take three times the amount of time to reach steady state...

That is what first pdoc wanted me to do with prozac when new as the 20 wired me by day three. Take a 20mg tablets every three days. That way a smaller dose with a long half life. So actually reading your title since not good at math I shouldn't have answered but it seems to make sense three times as long to reach a steady state. Phillipa

I think you'd eventualy reach steady state, but that it would take longer, also, your trough levels would be somewhat lower.
Which med are you thinking of?

Don't laugh, but Memantine. I saw a post in the archives from Emme (who's also super-sensitive to meds) where she was taking 1.25mg every second day. I know steady-state is important with Memantine, so was wondering if it could still be achieved not dosing everyday, given the erratic half-life.I have a bunch left lying around and about 3-4 weeks until I see someone else or go inpatient, so thought I'd give it a shot.

You would hit steady state just as fast. Just at a lower level.
This is the end of the thread.
