How much pain and how many meds and how many breakdowns do we need to have before we don't feel like we're on the take from the man. It's our money, we paid it in.

It's not easy but so far, so good. Talk to SSD or go to their forum.

Talk with your doc about it. If they are convinced you need it and you can present a good application for it you should get it.

Your income will be limited, and how much you can work and keep it.

I didn't use a lawyer. And got it first try. Which is not usual. 2/3 of applicants are rejected first try. You will need all the records you have on your illness. If you don't get it first try you should get a lawyer, but they will take out of your benifits if you get it.

greatly appreciated.

If you have no job, no insurance, a diagnosis. As long as you've seen your doc I'd ask if he will go to bat for you. I think what your doc says carries the most weight.

Sorry for the long post but there's a lot to know.
I'm 59, attempted suicide, psych ward for four days, nervous breakdown. They like that stuff.

The thing to do is get started now! If things get better you can work. If they don't at least you have cash flow.

If you are disabled the treating your condition is no different from someone getting help for physical problems. BPII can kill you faster than some cancers. That's why bipolar is on the list.

Throwing in the towel = pride. This is no time for pride.

ok that's it for me. Good luck

I don't know whether you should apply or not. I never figured that out for myself. I do think that for me not having to keep going every day can be a trap of sorts.

However do check the recent work requirement on the social security website. You can lose eligibility for disability if you wait too long. You don't want that to happen if you need the disability.
