A quick fix would be a benzodiazepine of course, like Xanax or Valium, thou these chemicals can be addictive, but they do work. A long term relief is most often found in SSRI's thou in 40% of cases they fail to correct SA.
Gabapentin (Neurontin) would also be worth considering. Guys who are on it often start "liking" it. I read this one story of a guy who took 9000mg of Gabapentin at once, he couldn't figure out which button on the elevator was up or down.
Also Lyrica, an anticonvulsant med is prescribed for anxiety related disorders in Europe. If the above fail, next comes the Nardil, there is not much that have to be added here, other than it's Nardil. It can make you feel too good on constant basis.
Good luck!

Hi Phillipa
I left all meds two months ago. I only take in the nigth 0.5mg of Tafil ( Xanax ) for sleepingMy last trial was with Lyrica/Tyvanil/Luvox but I got tired of spending money and feeling the same so I left everything. At least Im not spending money
I would like to find something that could help me even just a bit. I even told my doctor that I would try cannabis opioids or other drugs just to feel that Im having a life

The best drug I ever took for anxiety and depression was the muscle relaxant baclofen. I was taking it for muscle spasms in my back, and it wiped out my anxiety and depression. It started to cause terrible insomnia after I'd been on it a week, so I had to quit taking it, but it gave me one of the best weeks of my life. The book The End of My Addiction by Olivier Ameisen has a lot of information on baclofen.
Lately I've been reading that the supplement n-acetylglucosamine (NAG) can be very helpful for anxiety.

> I think I heard someone was taking it for painNo, it's not the same as glucosamine. N-acetylglucosamine is sold at some health food stores and online. It's being studied as a treatment for MS and some other autoimmune disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis and Crohn's.

I wonder if Baclofen is difficult to give up.
Of course if it was as good as that you would not care.
Hugh, you had insomnia from it. I imagine you tried to get a dose that helped without too much insomnia?

Baclofen affects the GABA-B receptor, while benzos affect the GABA-A receptor. I've read some posts about people having baclofen withdrawal. I'd guess this happens to some and doesn't to others. People shouldn't stop taking it cold turkey. Baclofen should be tapered, as sudden withdrawal could cause seizures. The dose that made me feel wonderful, and that caused insomnia, was 75-100 mg. A lower dose didn't help with mood.

Anything that makes me feel wonderful or even much better normally causes insomnia.

This was ages ago and I don't think it would do it now. But the combo was deprenyl citrate (1 or 2mg) sublingual and rhodiola.
I like them both still but rhodiola in particular wrecks my sleep. Deprenyl is not so bad.
Tianeptine is helpful too. Not wonderful but better than nothing.

I have to agree with Hugh
Baclofen is a wonder drug for depression, anxiety, energy & sociability, in my experience
There are some problems though:
Firstly it can be very addictive & withdrawals are apparently horrible
Secondly its a bit of a "dumb" drug for me, I feel more irritable & a bit aggressive when it wears off
Thirdly it gives me Nightmare Insomnia
Since I have insomnia anyway, I've had to stop
This is the end of the thread.
