I think for Klonopin 1-2ish (give or take a bit) milligrams/day is fairly normal. To get an idea of how much your dosage would be in valium, multiply x 20. That would be 30mgs/day for your new dose. Back in the 70s, 20-40mgs/day valium was fairly standard.
tapering off klonopin can be rough, but it can be done..as long as you do slooooowly.

Wow 15mg total of valium in 70's was standard as that was my first med. Add the miltown for a year. But isn't .5mg three times a day lower than what you were taking. I must reread the dose. Phillipa

Has this dose become less effective because of tolerance, or has its effect held steady, but your doc just thinks you need more of it? My advice is that if you ever do develop tolerance to a benzo, don't increase your dose. I did this twice when I became tolerant to lorazepam, and all I did was buy myself some extra time by digging myself in deeper. This made my taper off benzos far longer and much more difficult. I wish I'd started tapering as soon as I started to develop tolerance. But if you don't develop tolerance to Klonopin, there's a good chance you'll be okay.
