Minocycline can be somewhat stimulating at first. Perhaps this is associated with your exaggerated reaction to exercise. Hopefully this will disappear quickly.

Diarrhea could be a problem. It is a common side effect that I was lucky enough not to get. However, if you see blood in the stool, you must contact your doctor.

I didn't experience anything like that with minocycline, although it does happen, especially if one has asthma. You might want to mention it to your doctors to be sure that it is not an allergic reaction, but I think you have very little to worry about. Try to relax so that you can get through the startup side effects. For side effects, I would say that minocycline has almost none, and is certainly better than any standard antipsyhotic or antidepressant. Diarrhea is less frequent with minocyclne than it is with tetracycline.

If your doctors clear you for continuing with minocycline treatment, I would move forward and eventually consider going up to 200 mg/day. Dosing should be split to twice a day.

Happy New Year!

Jeroen,

Although I felt benefit from minocycline pretty quickly, it took my body 4 or 6 weeks to adjust to taking it and to get my dose up to 100 mg. I had some startup side effects that went away. Unless you have a truly dangerous reaction to it, try not to overthink how you are feeling on the drug from day to day and just ride things out for a while.

That is a very difficult issue for me to address. I would not want to provide you with an opinion that leads to catastrophe. I would prefer that you ask your doctors these questions, and perhaps post their responses on Psycho-Babble so that we can learn from and possibly critique their findings and opinions.

I am excited to see how you respond to minocycline 200 mg/day.
