Just curious. How many of you have psychiatrists that you have been seeing for a while, and when you visit him/her they remember most of the meds you take and what happened the last time you visited? My pdoc is highly qualified and generally a nice guy but I am dumbfounded sometimes when I go into see him that he has practically no memory of what I am taking nor what we discussed the last visit. And he will have a different opinion of the subject we talked about the last time I went to see him! He has to check his notes for everything. I know he is busy with patients but sometimes it is a bit shocking. I wonder if that is common.

Yes mine says hello "Lets see the last time we met" Looks down at notes, reads them then reads back to me my meds and asks if this is what I'm taking. PJ

Phillipa if I were your pdoc I would say before each session "Phillipa you have been the hallmark and foundation of psychobabble and have helped and supported and continue to support so many people through ups and downs. You don't judge, you are thoughtful, you don't write anything out of spite and your continued contribution and thoughtfulness has made a huge impact and is invaluable to this forum".

My p-doc pretty much remembers my meds. But I don't see him for, just like twenty minutes every few months. At a minimum, I see him for a half-hour a month and sometimes I see him for an hour. I also saw hi for an hour a week for therapy for eight years, until last year. So he pretty much remembers everything.
I've never gone to p-doc exclusively for meds. don't know what that would be like.

My shrink kept scrupulous records, though once he did accidentally write me a script for lorazepam instead of diazepam - he was quite embarrassed when I asked if he was sure that was right

good to hear. when you voice concerns over what med in your cocktail you think might not be working, side effects, improvements, questions et Does your pdoc seem receptive or is he/her confident or perhaps stubborn saying that is or isn't a side effect. Also how open is your pdoc to trying new meds if he/she hasn't tried them before?

If it is any consultation I can't remember all my regular customers as a pizza driver. I will say that my last 2 pdoc s remember my meds, even the brand of generic.
