My diagnosis switches between a severe form of bipolar I and schizophrenia, depending on the shrink (its a public health clinic).
Is there a point in taking an AD if you have serious mental issues? Or just focus on the neuroleptic and/or mood stabilizers?

This seems to be where the docs are going, lots of them now are negelcting to use anti depressants on the basis its becoming a idea that these meds "acivate the conditions."
I dont know first there was bi polar, docs couldent get a knab on it,so bipolar 2,then 3,like a bad movie sequel
Now everyone is schizoeffective.I truly dont believe, and not to offend anyone that these docs know what the hell they are doing.
All i know is id crumble without parnate my antidepressant

Some studies show that (especially if there is an affective component) antidepressants can improve negative symptoms of schizophrenia.
Certain antidepressants have neuro protective effects and may help reduce disease progression (at least on a theoretical basis)

I think ADs are helpful for people with all sorts of disorders because they help with the stress of being mentally ill.

My antidepressant *is* my mood stabilizer. I also take Lamictal...
