Hi - I have been off most meds for nearly two years (still take 200mg of lamictal, but I'm not sure what it does, really. Has no side effects for me though). Recently, I have become severely depressed again, for the first time in over three years. I asked my p-doc to start me on lexapro again, which worked sometimes in the past. He said if it didn't work, maybe I could try brintellix (sp?).
He said it's new and he thinks very promising and works differently from other ADs now on the market. Parnate has also worked for me in the past, but I don't want to deal with the side effects (postural hypotension and insomnia) if I don't have to.
Anybody tried this med?

Haven't taken it. Thinking though if you have been off the lexapro for three years that it may very well work again for you. Did your doc say what was different in brintellix? Phillipa

I've been on Brintellix. It starts working fairly rapidly-about 2 weeks. Its anxiolytic effects are pretty pronounced. It's an SSRI like Lexapro, but does a lot of things SSRIs don't do, like antagonize 5ht7 receptors and agonize 5ht1a receptors. Think of Brintellix as a sword and other SSRIs as a club.

It made my mood unstable.
