Passion flower to help with AAP withdrawal?

Posted by Lamdage22 on April 30, 2015, at 6:36:51

What do you guys think?

I once took a supplement with SJW, Passion flower and valerian.

Valerian on its own doesnt really do anything for me.

I dont think SJW helps with sleep either. I was doing fairly well.

I don't think it could hurt (?) and its probably cheaper than many (most?) pharm options, plus its available w/o an Rx, so you'd have the freedom to play w/ dosage and different combos as you ease off the neuroleptics...

...are you sure you even have chronic mental illness? Even E. Fuller Torrey, the scariest drug 'em up and lock 'em up shrink ever, says something like 25% of 1st episode psychosis people recover with or w/o meds.

Even if you have a subsequent episode, odds of recovery are pretty good. Plus, you have family support, you're young, and you're clearly intelligent.

To me...chronic mental illness is real, and there's a relatively small # of people who need meds to have a life (more) in touch w/ reality. Beyond that...throwing heavy psych meds at less severe problems and forcing people into the patient role for life is just cruel and inhumane, not to mention expen$ive.

Sorry about the rant. Why don't you research your alternative health options and see what appeals to you?

My personal advice would be to look to Orthomolecular first, because vitamins and minerals (and sometimes amino acids) are processed more easily by the body (according to OM people). You can do it with meds, in your case with a goal of getting off the neuroleptics w/o a rebound psychosis.

I do OM w/ meds. Makes meds more tolerable and helps keep me cool, calm, and collected. May reduce TD risk considerably.

I was dumb enough to get on MAOI several times which has lead to psychosis. Then i was in a "drug em, lock em up" hospital which has made me addicted to a LOT of antipsychotics. Funny enough, that didnt help psychosis. What helped was getting out of there!

No problem.

I am not partial to vitamins, since the WHO and other HOs (not girls) recommend mostly only vitamin D and says that others are potentially harmful in the wrong dosage.

Before i was on MAOI the LAST time(and subsequently went to "lockem up, drug them" hospital), i was doing well on 200mg Seroquel only.

So yeah, i may be a person that can recover.

For antipsychotic withdrawl, you may try vitamin C and / or magnesium. These two have anti-tolerance effects, which may help reduce dopamine super sensitivity.

Passionflower. Valerian. Lemon Balm. Skull Cap. These are all effective in the "relax" and "sleep" areas. Usually combos of 2 or 3 work best and that's how experts usually do it. Different folks will like different stuff. For me I liked the Passion+LemonBalm combo the best. Valerian tasted nasty and I think hurt depression a bit. Skull cap had the most knock out power for me. Lemon balm at high dose actually completely stopped dead in its tracks a monster incredible anti-psychotic withdrawal on a day I needed to get up on a stage in front of people.

I think herbs like these should be first line treatments....the meds as alternative treatment. We got it backwards! :-)
