Returning to previous regime = quick titration?

Posted by MuseMemento on May 4, 2015, at 21:55:40

I accidentally posted this in alternative initially.
Hi, all. After attempting a number of different things, I think I'm at the point where it makes sense to return to a tried, tested and true regime with tweaking to follow. That being said, should I titrate to the same dosage that I last noticed results as quickly as possible? Like, 300 mg wellbutrin xl and 200 mg zoloft is what I'm returning to. Should I go up to the 300 mg wellbutrin xl on day 4 and aim for the 200 mg zoloft by week 4, or should I be more conservative even though those are likely the doses that I'm going to eventually arrive at anyway? Thanks.

MuseMemento,

If I were in your position, I'd probably "play it by ear" as far as titrating your medications is concerned. If you notice problems with what seem to be start-up side effects, I'd probably be inclined to take things slowly. However, you might want to move up more quickly if you don't notice much as far as start-up side effects are concerned and/or have strong symptoms to contend with. Altogether, I'd probably err on the side of taking things slowly, while paying attention to how you respond to the medications early on.

This, of course, is just what I would do if I were in your position. Others might be inclined to do things differently. And of course, if you've received any instructions from a doctor or other health professional on how to titrate, their advice should certainly take precedence over what I would do.

Good luck,
Tomatheus

wow. That's some rapid titration. I'm clearly not an MD, but...if you insist on doing this...my personal, un-professional opinion would be to have sedatives and/or neuroleptics handy, should agitation arise.

It had just been a thought. Lol. THe prevailing message seems to be more cautious here...fair enough.

We do seem to be doing something similar if not an even further accelerated plan, actually. I'll be on 200 mg zoloft as of day 17, rather than 22 if all goes well. Wellbutrin will hit 300 mg on day 8. Thanks for your input! I do have my regular lorazepam and abilify to ease the transition.

It definitely depends on the individual. I personally titrate quickly with every medication I try because I typically don't experience much discomfort from side effects. But now that I'm working, I might be more careful.
