could it be that klonopin never really worked for me because it took about 5 hours for it to kick in and by then the shallow breathing and panic already began....take tegretol which breaks klonopin down by 30%

Klonopin was never good for me as needed. You can slip it under your tongue and that's supposed to make it work faster (a former shrink told me that...I dunno...).
How's Ativan treating you? Ever taken good ole Valium?

i hear ya. I think when you're tense, hypomanic, what have you, taking a benzo frees up mental energy. Personal opinion here...like, less of what you have to work with is tied up in crazy, so you can do other things, even with some sedation.
Anyway, I hope everything works out well for you. Personally, I'd take Ativan over Klonopin. The only thing I really liked about Klonopin was that it could even out mood swings. That and 2x daily dosing.

For most people Xanax is a better anxiolytic than Ativan.
Xanax (alprazolam) is available in an extended release preparation:
Xanax XR
I have never taken it, so I can't comment on how long the effect of one dose lasts. However, it is indicated as once-a-day dosing.

Joe,
Hate to bother you again but...Klonipin is a benzo you have to take several days to fully benefit.
The Valiums, Serax, Ativan,Tranxene, etc are the short acting ones and are very dangerous.
Years ago I watched a movie "Can't Stop Dancing" Very sad true story due to Valium
One thing I do is I'm very aggressive with my doc. I want to know where we're going and why. Then I want to know how many he/she has taken on that path with success. At $400/hr I think I have some rights.
This is the end of the thread.
