i think having too high of a dose (espcially SSRI's) can make people feel flat, like i've read people started paxil, amd my own doctor told me if she moves the prozac to 80 it may make me go flat, but i got lucky and it's providing a good non depressed state all day......
but i cut my lamictal to 100mg at night because when it was at 400mg it was too much, flat, boring, always stayed in a gloomy calm

There was a study done in which depressed patients were given 5mg or 20mg of Prozac. Both groups received a similar benefit. The 5mg group had fewer side effects.

I'm betting when it was new on the market and only came in 20mg dose and the third day I was having panic attacks and before taking the med I felt fine. The doc has said take every third day. Nope I flushed them down the toilet. Phillipa

Experts are saying now that ADs often aren't dosed high enough for results. I don't know.
Some conditions require higher doses, like OCD w/ SSRI drugs. "Depression" covers so much ground...I would imagine that some people would need (or only be able to tolerate) lower doses, while higher doses would be more appropriate in other cases, depending on the symptoms and the AD(s) used.
With everybody on cocktails, there are often other meds involved that can also have an effect on depression. Low dose seroquel, benzodiazepines, sleeping pills, anticonvulsants, stimulants...on and on it goes. Fewer and fewer people are only on one medication.
Anyway...personally, I take a high dose (400mgs) of Wellbutrin SR. I was started on 200 then the doc doubled it. I feel better on 400 than I did on 200, and I feel better on Wellbutrin than I did not on Wellbutrin, so...ADs do work for me, at this point in my life. I think Wellbutrin "works" for me because its mildly stimulating, which helps not only my underlying mood problems, but also helps counter the sedating effects of my other meds w/o causing over-stimulation. Poor man's Ritalin, basically.
This is the end of the thread.
