dextromethorphan + bupropion in phase III trials

Posted by TriedEveryMedication on September 1, 2017, at 20:49:54

The company looking to market this is claiming this combo has all these traits

-NMDA Receptor Antagonist
-Sigma-1R Agonist
-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor
-Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor
-Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor
-Nicotinic ACh Receptor Antagonist

The bup decreases the metabolism of the DXM, like the quinidine in nuedexta does.

Stephen Stahl also claims DXM hit the mu-opioid receptor which is a little concerning.

What do you think? Anyone take DXM for depression?

i totally like and respect the research your posted, but dextromethphrphan is nasty, it's in cough medications, it does inhibit serotonin but im telling you it does not much help the mood, and can be unpleasant. Alot of my old friends would sip cough serupt like robitussin, high dextromorthan content, like a sippin on a beer, it has psychoactive effects, but its nasty in it's effects, with wellbutrin that would have to be very ... not so good. That would be an altered state of mind that would not be pleasant

but i understand because yees dextromorthan is a serotonin reptake inhibitor, but im not so sure it would totally be a good med, but that's only my opinion, and view, because it could help other people

FWIW I had a thing for bottles of Robitussin (dextromethorphan) for a few years. It was quite effective for my moods. Used in combo w/ lamictal which I happened to be taking the "tripping" effect was blunted and it really just kinda detached me enough to be comfortable.

I think it's a good drug but not the way I was using it. If properly studied and doesed I think it could be good.

Sad thing is they'll probably charge a billion dollars for this "new" drug when the 2 generics would be a couple bucks. That's how it went w/ Nudexda :( Never tried that but my father benefited from it behavior/mood-wise in the last few years of his battle w/ Alzheimers.

The NMDA receptor meds are exciting for me....I seem to respond well to them.....hoping for the next batch to come.

I have used DXM for depression as a helper med.

I don't really consider it a 'daily med' (in the sense that it is impairing, to some extent). However, I would consider it useful for anxious, anhedonic type depression.

Animal studies suggest it has actions similar to ketamine (with perhaps a bit weaker antidepressant effect).

dextromethorphan yea my old friend long time ago did it for the trip effect, i've tried it it just....makes me feel detached like a dysphoric hallucinogenic, wierd mood felt nasty i only take if i have too for cough.... but other people are respond differently, it is a serotonin reptake inhibitor, so yes that would help moods.....
