Along the lines of, "There is no point in living, I should just die." "Life is too painful, I just want to die."

Can you tolerate a low dose of lithium? I recall you had an issue with it I think.
I'm not sure what you mean by the right track. Is it finding a workable AD?

Lithium is my go to for all things bipolar, it just doesn't have enough oomph to kick my depression.
The right track is finding a workable AD, yes.

Indeed I have. It made me hypomanic-I drove 1700 miles to see my girlfriend on the spur of the moment, wrecked a car and bought a new one...

I didn't give it a fair trial. I guess I'll try it if Mirtazapine fails.

You think "I want to die".
Dont you think maybe it would be better in hospital, voluntarily? If you said that to a doc you would have no choice.

In my opinion venlafaxize is just another SSRI at standard doses. Interesting that you switched to mirtazepine. You can add back venlafaxine to the mirtazepine for miraculous results. These are both higher (not highest) doses. Its been coined the phraze 'Rocket Fuel' coz of the huge boost in NA/NE.
Mirtazepine is like 2 meds in one. Higher doses being more stimulating than smaller doses

I agree with mighty. However i would try to avoid psych drugs whenever you can. Your dangerous drug experiment could have gone south big time. And the same goes for any other psychiatric drug. You could have been killed and you could have killed others, too. Mirtazapine might be even worse. I mean who knows???
I dont think you are on the right track with Mirtazapine at all.

I think you dont want to die, you just dont want to go on living like you do right now. Things can change for the better. Get the best help that you can get. To me that is a hospital that offers lots of meaningful therapy and is careful with meds.
Do you think you can do that? Your Mirtazapine experiment would be at least somewhat safer that way.

Somewhere along the way I got lost.
I was on Effexor and experienced suicidiality. I switched to Mirtazapine and have been experiencing improvements.
I think I'm on the right track now.

If Mirtazapine works for you right now thats fine but dont take it for granted. It could stop working and then you are back to zero. I would do as much non pharmaceutical therapy as possible even if you feel good on Mirtazapine. M. can help but dont expect it (or other drugs) to solve sll psychological problems for the rest of your life. Its not realistic. Work on improving yourself, your relationships and occupation as much as you can.
Stay vigilant. I wish you the best.

> Stay vigilant. I wish you the best.Lamdage22 is right. Also I think that now you feel better somewhat, It might be a good idea to tell your doc about it. No suicidal idealization any more? Then they wont put you in involuntarily, I dont think. At least they are aware of it and can sense the signs, possibly even before you do.
Best of luck. Keep us posted!

So, the mirtazapine killed my libido and blunted my cognition. I stopped a week ago and already feel better. There's still this undercurrent of depression going on and I don't know how to deal with it.
I've been experimenting with ropinirole and found it somewhat helpful for the depression, but it makes me edgy and brings on insomnia.
Buprenorphine knocks my depression right out but feels a little weird.

You could try (psycho)therapy and social support and see where that gets you.

You need the right therapist or clinic if you ask me. The wrong therapist may make you think that psychotherapy does not help, but this is not true.
Good luck
