Dont antibiotics kill beneficial bacteria in the gut? And what if you really need an antibiotic because of infection? Will it still work?
I would be careful.

In this case, doxycycline is a reasonable choice. (Not advised for children under 8 and pregnant women). To the best of my knowledge, doxycycline does not exert anti-inflammatory properties like minocycline does. This is one mechanism by which minocycline is thought to improve depression and the NEGATIVE symptoms of schizophrenia. Others include its ability to modulate glutamate excitotoxicity.
It is my impression that the minimum dosage of minocycline for psychiatric use is 200 mg/day.
I tried minocycline for depression at 200 mg/day. It helped. However, after 2 years, I developed hyperpigmentation discoloration of my feet and shins. It was at this point that I decided to discontinue it.

1. You are resistant to 50 mg/day of minocycline. Perhaps the minimum dosage chosen for study, 200 mg/day, would work.

2. Minocycline has been demonstrated in multiple studies to help with depression and the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. I tried doxycycline for several months without effect. However, minocycline 200 mg/day produced an improvement in depression within days. If anything, doxycycline is more likely to worsen depression and cause suicidal thinking.
