Gillman is getting serious and starts to bring "heavy ordnance" into play! Nice! What is he up to?

It's a shame that the medical community is turning from their use. After all, depression can be a life threatening illness. In one pill, MAOIs have a very broad spectrum mechanism.

In my own personal research into mood disorders, there is (far) more evidence of dysregulated monoamine oxidase, than there is for a dysregulated serotonin reuptake system.

Hey,

Well, doing some research on serotonin transporters in depression reveals that (if anything) the serotonin transporter is already lower than normal in depression. However, many studies I have read suggest that, at least in the social stress model of depression, there is an upregulation of monoamine oxidase A, and subsequent drop in all three monoamines. Nothing is completely conclusive, but I have seen quite a few more studies suggesting that MAO-A is higher in mood disorders than studies suggesting that SERT is higher (in fact, as mentioned, in most cases it is lower).

What this suggests to me, is that MAO-A may be more of a central dysregulation than monoamine transporters. However, we don't have brain selective MAO-A inhibitors, and hence the drugs we use create the tyramine effect.

Here is one study, but there are others.

Well, MAOI didn't help me because I became (pre)psychotic.
