I wondered if you could share your experiences with abilify in terms of a treatment for depression and / or mood stabilization.
Does it feel the same as other atypicals (Seroquel, Zyprexa etc)?
Thanks,
Linkadge

I note they do an alternative (rexulti) with lower side effects...but it's not available in the UK :(

i take 20mgs/daily for...errr...something in the Bipolar I family, I think (the label/diagnosis is forever being "reworked..." I guess the treatment people don't have much else to do?).
for me, its a good thing. since I fall into the "for the love of God, take your meds!" category, Abilify is something of a minor miracle because it gets the job done without...
dense sedation, too much weight gain (no, it is not weight neutral), intense dysphoria, twitches and such, drug induced depression...
i tried zyprexa, seroquel, risperidone...and abilify is the -1- i've been able to tolerate at a full dose, long term. after years and years of treatment from 15-30mgs/day (please don't go to 30mgs, btw, if you can avoid it), i have 0 eps, 0 td, etc.
i should of course note that i take high dose b-vitamins and antioxidants (more or less Dr.Hoffer-style Orthomolecular) with my psych Rx treatments. I suspect the antioxidants might explain the 0 TD.
im not one to recommend the neuroleptics to most people, but...if whatever ails you is nervous breakdown-level, then please do consider Abilify, if only because to me it seems a bit less toxic than many other options.
personally...i would -not- recommend someone with mild to moderate depression consider adding abilify or any other neuroleptic, no matter how 'atypical.' severe depression, sure...less severe, id talk to the doctor about other options 1st.
hope this helps.

have you tried rexulti or discussed it with your doctor?

no...right now, Abilify gets the job done, no tics or twitches. i do kind of wonder rexulti might be better for me since I'm so prone to bad depression, but...
im also not exactly gung ho about trying something that new to the market, if I can help it. if the abilify stops 'getting the job done,' or if I develop problems then maybe I'll ask about rexulti.

I don't think Rexulti is better. It might be less bad. The longing for a psychopharmaceutical fix is actually what keeps most in a bad place here. Take a step back and look at what you are doing here and where it leads. Not you personally, Christempowered. You are actually reasonable.

I feel like im in church. Only that people here don't believe in God but in psychopharmaceuticals. Despite all evidence contradicting this belief. I think I'm done. Its a waste of time

> LinkadgeI took very small doses, 3-5mgs to boost celexa. I felt very confused and zoned out at first. It helped with interpersonal fears/beliefs but I got the same blunted detached feeling as other AAPs (latuda, seroquel).
I was exercizing a fair amount at the time, and found that I would get kind of weak and bored...no endorphins that make you keep going. after a few weeks compulsive behavior kicked in. Not sure if its got a different therapeutic profile at higher doses.
