Tripthopan + Ginko and ear-ache

Posted by Francesco on November 21, 2003, at 11:58:57

A couple of hours ago I took triptophan and ginko. Now I have a sense of pressure in the (right)ear. I have to add that I had this problem also with Ritalin. Is that a sign of high blood pressure ?

Can you get your blood pressure taken?
that might be the first step. Ginkgo does increase blood flow. How much did you take? What mg.'s? What ever you take with Ginkgo does increase the power of anything you consume with it... coffee...etc really anything.
Doctors warm people about Ginkgo use especially before an operation of any kind. Ginkgo can cause blood loss. It thins your blood.

See my post above... I think you might be "adding fuel to the fire" in your temporal lobe by taking tryptophan.

At the same time it helps your cingulate gyrus though.

I think this hypothesis can explain your mixed responses to tryptophan as well as all of your serotonergic meds if Amen is right.

Keep the gingko. :-)

HI DSCH I'm too confused at the moment to give a rational answer at what you said. I appreciate very much all your care and attempts to help me but I think that first of all I have to take a diary with all the meds I'm taking because I'm not sure I'm giving you correct information.

For ex. I am taking also Serpax (a benzo) at night because I'm experiencing trouble in sleeping and moreover I rarely sleep more than six hours. I know a benzo isn't a sharp answer to the problem so I was wondering if magnesium could help also in this regard.

I'm going to order right now on Amazon some basic Adhd books. Which books would you suggest to start with ?

They will explain my new reasoning step by step. Next post has your book recommendation. :-)

One of the better web pages I have found on gingko... http://ihumans.com/news_comments_archive/GinkgoCompoundActivity.html

By dilating capilaries it should actually lower blood pressure, right?

Thanks DSCH. I followed you suggestion. I used to Ginko for this purpose and it helped. My pressure is usually normal but I had some problem with it yesterday taking 1000mg tyrosine and 200+100 epa/dha * 2.

I had to add anyway than when I'm nervous I use to smoke a cigarette after another, so I don't think tyrosine is the only culprit. But I have read it can raise blood pressure so I have to think about the opportunity of taking it or not.

I'm more oriented to triptophan in these days and to add a B-complex. I'm not have yet decided a starting regimen, being yet in the phase of dumb experiments.

Anyway I'm studying suplements and vitamins, because I undestood that if I don't do it it's very hard for me to follow a regimen because I can't understand the reasons of what I'm doing.

Tomorrow I will go the psychiatrist who prescribed me Ritalin and I will talk to him about my responses to triptophan and thyrosine.

He said that it would hafve not been probable that I would get a immediate response to aminos.
Since it's what I have got I want him to consider if there can be medical causes to my quick responses. My purpose is not only to know if I can have some kind of medical defect in metabolism but also to open a little his mind.

His second choice after Ritalin as you will remember was Imiprammine + a mood stabilizer. It came out that I have a prostathis (in my opionion probably dued to long use of TCA and alcohol) so I have very good reasons not to take imiprammine.

Since these are 'medical' reasons I think he'll understand them. I'm also thinking about looking for a physician expert in orto-molecular psychiatry here in Rome. It will not be easy but maybe it's worth. I will tell you about.
