I took some l-tryptophan for the first time last night and for some reason shortly after taking it I got "brain zaps" similar to the ones that you get from SSRI withdrawal.
Anyone know why that may have happened?
Also, I don't feel any better today at all (I have OCD, health anxiety, social anxiety and mild-moderate depression).
How long on average do you have to take it for before you get results?
I took 1500mg with a small pear after eating nothing for about two hours and I took some plain B6 and some niacinamide earlier, but I didn't have any P5P to take, could that cause problems?

I don't know which can be the cause of brain-zaps but maybe you could try on a lower dose (500 mg) and see what happens.

Yeah, I've only taken 1000mg the last two nights and have had no brain zaps.
It still isn't helping me though.
Can it take as long to work as an SSRI?
Its just I've read posts by people saying they felt much better after the first night of taking it.

> Can it take as long to work as an SSRI?I suppose, just suppose, that it can if the main problem to target is OCD. But I don't know if tripthopan is first choise suplement for this disturb. Did you read something about tripthophan and OCD ?
Since I'm not very expertized on triptophan you might ask to Larry Hoover or DSCH on this board ...> Its just I've read posts by people saying they felt much better after the first night of taking it.
It's possibile but maybe they have different disturbs to target. I can figure out that can help almost immediately anxiety and some kind of depression but I'm not sure about OCD and related issues.

Yes, I've seen quite a few sites that say it should help OCD.
This is the end of the thread.
